Why did they all get in the back of the van?  I don't remember.  Maybe because we practically live in the car these days.  Or because everyone is excited because we've got a rental.  (Not nearly as exciting is the fact that we have a rental because I got rear ended and our van is in the shop.  But, could always be worse, right?)  Or maybe it's because my life is chaos and I lost all control.  Yes, that is most likely the reason behind this series of photos.

10 on 10 (or 12 on 12...whatever) :: September

This little guy will be turning 2 this week, so it seems fitting to have a day in the life that is mostly his.  To really feel like you were a part of this day, I would need a video of him saying 'NO' eight thousand times at the dentist--in the waiting room and ultimately to the exam chair.  Guess we'll give it a go next time.

Otherwise it was a decidedly beautiful day.  I often feel on the edge of chaos, a day late and a dollar short and like I am chasing my tail...but today I tried to stop and count my blessings as often as I could.  It was a full day.

The weather hasn't exactly turned over to fall, but we've taken matters into our own hands.  The garden has been ripped out and the pool closed, so save for the pile of peppers (coming out our ears) those are two less things I have to take care of now.

It's a good thing, too, as the year is off and running.  And we had two different appointments with specialists for two different kids in two different parts of the state last week, 3 back to school nights this week, and well, the normal back to school chaos and chasing of a two year old.

I can handle all that, but it's my own literal running that has gotten my goat as of late.  I mean, how many miles do I have to log before my midsection responds accordingly?  I've been stepping up my efforts, but I'm beginning to wonder where my efforts are best spent...because I'm getting a little tired of being so tired all the time....and still so bulgy around the middle.

I'm also frustrated that I fail so miserably at photographing cross country.
But, that is another story.

Aside from all my whining and complaining, I have a great cheering section, and at a least a fan or two who couldn't care less how many bulges I have.

Here's to fall, pumpkin spice everything....and long fluffy sweaters.

Ends and Beginnings (and somewhere in the middle, I hope!)

We wrapped up the summer in the same manner we began it, a wild flurry.  The days ran together and  were chock full of...just...everything.  I worried, just a bit, about how the babe would handle his playmates going off to school each morning.  We shoe shopped, and washed clothes, and bought binders and backpacks.  And then the day came.

And this is what I got.

Yep.  The high schooler was slow moving and not at all impressed, and we barely made the bus for the girls, rushing about trying to stuff too much into the morning.

That is, perhaps, the awesome thing about being into photography.  I have lots of pictures of my kids together, and I'd have loved one from that morning.  But, this is better to me.  This is what it really felt like.

Another awesome thing about being into photography?  Passing it on.  Literally and figuratively.  I fiddled with the settings and handed the camera to one of my children on my anniversary.  Eighteen years.  I love the result.  And every time I do it I explain a little more about how the camera works or composition or light.  Win, win.

Oh, and there was a national dog day in there somewhere.
My dog says
how've you been?
got a treat?

Hope this time of year has been treating you well!

We went chasing the late summer sun last night.
And a few chickens.

It's All Fun and Games....

Okay, no...it isn't.

I'll have to admit to struggling a bit here through this final stretch of summer.  The heat and humidity seem to be sucking the life out of me, and trying to process produce from the garden, back to school prep, house guests this week, the normal chaos that is life with 5 kids, and trying to force myself into enjoying every moment of what's left of the summer is taking its toll.

I've been more of a grouch than I'd like to admit, but there have also been many great moments in between the chaos and busyness.

Trikes in the house, and refreshing rain....

Looking for meteors.

Updating last year's portraits with a chicken photobomb...

and letting loose a little.
